Travel Route: Lusaka – Mumbwa – Itezhi Tezhi Turn Off- to Itezhi Tezhi Town – Kafue National Park
Introduction. This is an exciting day 1 of you travelling by road from Lusaka to Itezhi Tezhi town of the Kafue National Park, southern region.
Note: The distance between Lusaka and Itezhi Tezhi is 326 kms. Itezhi Tezhi town is the gateway entrance to the southern part of Kafue National Park. You will do all your activities in the Ngoma Game Management Areas inside the Kafue National Park.
Information about Itezhi Tezhi town
Itezhi Tezhi is a small vibrant town situated in southern province sitting on a nice mountain view. Apart from being the home base of the Kafue National Park, it is home to one of the country’s largest Hydro electricity generating plant. It is awesome to see the beautiful wall of the lake Itezhi Tezhi.
Order of the program.
Pick-up point is LEVY MALL JUNCTION in Lusaka, capital city of Zambia or at Fair mount Hotel in Livingstone.
07:00 am: You will be picked from the parking yard of Levy Mall junction in front of StayEasy Hotel Lusaka. Accompanied by our tour guide and driver, you will travel westward using our vehicle on the Lusaka – Mongu (M9) road. The final destination will be to the Itezhi Tezhi situated southern region of the Kafue National Park.
NOTE: Please at the LEVY MALL congregation point by 06:30 am in order to attend the briefing session.
Accommodation: You will stay and sleep at Naumba River Camp sitting on the banks of Lake Itezhi Tezhi.
Program of the day
07:30 am: Wake up from Naumba River Camp in the Namwala Game Management Area of Itezhi Tezhi district. This is about 1.5 Kms away from the MUSA gate of the Kafue National Park. Thereafter you take your sumptuous breakfast.
08:30 am: You will then leave for Ngoma game management area of the Kafue National Park – southern region for game viewing.
09:30 am – 10:30 am: Enter into the Ngoma Management Area inside the Kafue National Park – southern region for game viewing.
10:20 am – 11.30 am: Commence touring around Ngoma Area Management, stopping frequently in safe places to have a closer look at some wild animals.
11:30 am – 12:00 pm: (Optional activity): Time and conditions permitting, drive to the Elephant Orphanage centre within the Kafue National Park – southern area.
Narration (information tip): You will see the marvelous work being done by David Sheppard Foundation volunteers in looking after vulnerable elephants.
Any donation from you either in-kind or cash is welcome. Your contribution goes towards supporting the marvelous work being done in protecting vulnerable young orphaned elephants and later releasing them into the wild once fully grown.
What may be donated by you can be (not compulsory):
- Medicines to be used for caring for these elephants
- Food supplements for the elephants.
- PPE Safety working clothing for the elephant care givers including any cash donation of any amount.
- Any financial support in cash is welcome.
12:30 pm – 13:30 pm: Eat sumptuous lunch at Elephant Orphanage centre.
NOTE: On certain days, the Elephant Orphanage center is closed to members of the public including tourists for visitation and tour. This is done to enable the center management carry out specialized routine medical care for the elephants. In this kind of situation, you will not visit the elephant orphanage center but continue with game viewing in the Kafue National Park, ngoma management area.
14:00 pm – Proceed to Nkala and Ngoma game management areas using the various loops especially those located along the river for more wildlife viewing.
Exit Kafue National Park at Musa gate and return to Naumba River Camp to take a short rest.
19:00 pm – 21:30 pm: Evening dinner and relaxation with friends.
21:00 pm: Retire to bed to sleep.

08:00 am – 09:30 am: Bush walk about around Itezi Tezhi Up Hill location.
10:00am: Thereafter, you will proceed to Iyanda village to view the Longola hotsprings (Cultural tourism) in the company of our professional tour guide.
12:30 am: Return to Naumba River Camp for lunch.
14:30 pm: Drive to the harbor for an hours walk along the riverine of Kafue River.
15:30 pm: Do a special activity as will be proposed by the tour leader.
Return and proceed down to buy personal drinks and other goodies for yourself at Melisa Supermarket at your own cost.
16:30 pm: Return to the Lodge.
18:30 pm: Farewell dinner in the evening
19:30 pm: Evening entertainment.
21:30 pm: Retire to sleep.

Kindly travel light but carry adequate clothing for travelling, and for walking around, and game viewing. You must pack mosquito repellant against mosquitoes and Tsetse flies.
Warning! There are Tsetse flies is certain parts of the Kafue National Park that do not carry diseases.
Any medical condition: Please inform us in advance in case you have any medical condition that we need to be aware about.
Other items to carry include:
- Please carry your original green Zambian National Registration Card (NRC) or passport. This is a mandatory requirement for you to be able to enter the Kafue National Park as a Zambian citizen.
- Comfortable walking shoes and open sandals.
- Full sleeve less bright colored tops for game viewing excursion.
- Umbrellas and if possible a hat to protect them from sunshine just in case it gets hot. Carry jersey just in case it gets cold. Carry also just one or two light blankets in case of the vehicle breakdowns down somewhere in the bush.
- Small bottle of sanitizers, small bottle of glycerin and personal tower.
- Any other personal items for your convenience such as ATM, Visa cards e.t.c. In case you want special wine and drinks to celebrate your holiday in Itezhi Tezhi, you are better off buying them in Lusaka where it is cheap as compared to Itezhi Tezhi. Getting smaller cooler box will not be a bad idea as well to cool off your drinks. Please you must not forget your tooth paste and brushes.

- 2 months before departure date: Full refund of the money paid.
- 1 month before departure date: 50% refund of the money already paid.
- 1 – 15 days before departure date: 30% refund of the money already paid
- 14 – 1 day before departure date: No refund (Customer loses money already paid)

Other terms and conditions
1. Lochinvar Safaris reserves the right to withdraw any participant from the tour without refund due to bad behavior or any other bad vices such as harassment of other participants.
2. This package is non transferrable to another person. This means that you can not transfer your rights to be on this tour to another person without Lochinvar Safaris approval.
